A new version of the 3 penny opera: this time in the guise of a restaurant with various rooms depicting scenes ranging from the prison to the Freudenzimmer. The basement restaurant in Lilienstraße is a delightfully quaint and evocative place to go and sit, with all its nooks and crannies. You can dine really well too. Brecht would have been in his element there. There are snacks and nibbles, a good variety of Fleischpflanzerl (meatballs), imaginative dishes like Mackie Messers Schweinenacken zum selber zerhacken (braised pig’s neck served with dumplings and coleslaw) or Pollys besoffene Garnele (sozzled shrimps), which have a real bite with a dash of whisky-honey sauce. There is also a place here for sweets from Austria. The restaurant is an exceptionally fine venue for events. The restaurant has a happy hour every day from 6 pm to 7 pm, when you can get half-price cocktails. The motto very Monday is Futtern wie bei Muttern (Eat as you would at mother’s).
