Sunday: 11:45-22:30 | Traditional Pub, Gastropub, Cafe & Snack Bar, Modern Pub Located in the medieval hamlet of Tyler Hill, surrounded by ancient woodland and only 5 minutes from Canterbury City and 15 minutes from Whitstable, The Tyler’s Kiln is a destination pub not to be missed.
Since opening in January 2015 following a multi-million pound two year renovation project, this truly unique venue has wowed more than 30,000 visitors in its first year and quickly rose to become the top pub in Canterbury and surrounding areas on TripAdvisor, where it has remained at the top ever since.
Themed in celebration of Tyler Hill’s 700 year-old tile making industry, the bar area is dominated by a huge brick built kiln containing two roaring open fires, each open to both sides giving plenty of opportunity to cosy up to a fire in a comfy leather armchair. Next to the bar is a village shop containing all the essentials, as well as locally made jams, chutneys and honey for sale. Upstairs there is a private dining/function room (seats 10), a hidden snug (seats 12), and a museum section featuring original 700 year old tiles discovered by Channel 4’s Time Team, as well as original Tyler Hill pottery and metal artefacts dating back 1000 years!
The restaurant has seating both upstairs and downstairs, and serves mouth-watering lunch and evening menus that change with the seasons. The Tyler’s Kiln has gained a reputation for serving high quality home-cooked British cuisine using locally sourced produce wherever possible. Both lamb and beef raised in Tyler Hill feature on the menu from time to time and the Traditional Sunday Roast is extremely popular offering a choice of four meats and vegetarian options. A children’s menu is available at all times as well as half sandwiches for those with smaller appetites.
Regular events include Steak & Wine Night every Tuesday (£19.95), Pie & Pint Night every Wednesday (£13.25), The Ceramic Sessions Live Music on the first Sunday of every month (free entry, 5:30pm), Bingo Lounge Night on the second Monday of each month and Quiz Night on the last Monday of each month.
