Sun / 12pm - 7pm | Gastropub, Restaurant with Rooms The Sun Inn is a boutique hotel and restaurant surrounded by beautiful countryside. From the moment you enter the Sun Inn your every whim is catered for by manager Craig Minto and his lively team, who are extremely friendly and attentive, while remaining unobtrusive. Downstairs in the bar/restaurant you will find an open plan room that manages to remain light, airy and fresh despite lots of character features such as open fires and eccentric wallpaper! The term “gastro pub” does no justice to the delicious food on offer, perfectly cooked salmon fillets with crispy parma ham accompanied by crushed potatoes and a zingy, yet fresh pesto sit alongside pork fillet wrapped in smoked pancetta, with fennel & apple salad, chunky Strathdon blue cheese croquettes, and a yummy cider cream sauce. The food is fresh, seasonal and sourced locally where possible, in fact; a board in the restaurant will detail exactly where your meat, fish and vegetable have come from! The competent and well thought out wine list is a perfect accompaniment and when your meal is over you can finish the glass in their pleasantly warm, outdoor, seated area.
Upstairs in the bedrooms they truly excel themselves with 5 beautiful bespoke bedrooms. Couples would be best placed in the Sun Inn “signature suite”. The main features of the room have to be their bespoke copper bathtub, comfortably big enough for two to sip champagne in and situated at the foot of a massive handcrafted four poster bed. Sumptuous velvet drapes, rich mauve wallpaper, dark wood paneling and furniture hand made by a local craftsman complete the stylish and lavish feel. Again, in the rooms you really notice the attention to detail. From the fresh fruit and homemade biscuits that greet you, the walk in monsoon shower with Purdeys of Argyll toiletries to the Egyptian cotton linen and Hypnos luxury mattress everything seems well thought out and superbly executed. The rooms also manage to supply all mod cons without losing character, in the suite you’ll find a huge plasma TV built (surprisingly discreetly) into the wall paneling, complete with unrestricted satellite reception.
For those who can tear themselves away from the bedrooms the Sun Inn also offers a range of fully equipped, vintage VW campervans for hire - the perfect way to travel round Scotland.
